Vancouver Island Wine Tours

Did you know that there are more than 20 wineries in the Vancouver Island region?  I didn’t.  Not until I stumbled across a wine tour while looking for limo services in Victoria.

I haven’t tried many Vancouver Island wines yet.  Cherry Point Vineyards is in Cobble Hill, just up the street from our venue.  I have popped by there for a quick tasting in the past and left with a bitter taste in my mouth.  Apparently, they have won awards as a newer vineyard in the region, so maybe I should give them a second chance.

If you have a free afternoon, you may want to do a wine tour while you are in town.  There are plenty of reputable vineyards right in the Cowichan Valley that offer tastings and food:

Grand Wine Tours and Crush Wine Tours offer day food and wine tasting trips in the Cowichan Valley starting at around $89.  TI Executive Limo has a Grand Wine & Culinary Package via limo for $109pp.

You can find a downloadable map (above) and more info about the Vancouver Island Wine Regions at the Wine Islands Vinters Association.

Time, where have you gone?

When D proposed last August, it felt like I had all the time in the world to plan this wedding.  I guess it always does when you first get engaged.  Now, I have only one month left and my to-do list is very long.   That is part of the reason why I have not posted in (gasp!) one month.

I am not stressed though.  I have planned and catered a lot of events over the years and one thing I have learned - that is not about the food, the cocktails or the flower arrangements as much as it is about how you make people feel.  I think people go over the top now trying to create the perfect wedding day. When all you really need is good music, the right lighting and the people you love together in one place to make your wedding memorable.  So, I will have my iPod ready for back-up, make sure the lights are on a dimmer and feel happy knowing that all of my closest friends and family will be together for once (and perhaps only once) in my entire life to celebrate this very special moment in time with us.   And no food, wedding favor or flower arrangment could top that.

PS. if you are going to serve wine, that better be good too!

The Cake Girls

If you live in the Chicago area and are getting married, I would call these girls for a tasting.  I have not met or called them personally but have read rave reviews and been to their site.   Their cakes look stunning.

Wedding Cake

I know what I want.  Lemon. Lemon. Lemon.  White fondant frosting.  Maybe lemon curd filling.  Two tier. Simple and delicious like this but without the big bow:

Handmade Gifts from Etsy.com

Etsy.com has a little bit of cool everything.  From laptop bags and change purses to organic jewelry like this, I love this site.  And the interactions I have had with the designers I have emailed in the past has been great.  I may consider ordering some unique, made-to-order gifts for my wedding here.  Oh, so many options…

I think these little silk embroidered pouches to hold your cosmetics are cute. I found them at theknot.com

Wish you love, J

Jamie - one of my best friends, bridesmaids and bride-to-be had her wedding shower today at 11 Water Street Restaurant in Exeter, MA.   Her wonderful sister and MOH, Stacy organized the shower and sent me a sweet email tonight to let me know that it was “fabulous…”  I am sure that it was.

Only 6 more weeks until Jamie’s big day.  I can’t wait to be there to celebrate this special moment in time with Jamie, and her friends and family.

Song for J.

A few summers ago, Jamie came to visit us while we were living in Horseshoe Bay, BC.  We drove up to Whistler one night for fun and Jamie kept playing By Your Side by Sade over and over again in the car.  She said that she just couldn’t get tired of it.  I think it was the ONLY song we listened to on the drive to and from Whistler and I am not exaggerating.  Now, every time I hear this song, I can’t help but think of Jamie.  It’s fitting too because I will be “by your side” very soon, J.    Love you.

See you at the altar

Instead of getting married with the ocean behind us, Dan’s Mom, Bev suggested that we have our ceremony on the grass in front of some trees.  We agreed.

Bev told me she had some “ideas” for our ceremonial stage and promised it would not be tacky. I wasn’t worried.  I was happy to just be getting married there and didn’t expect anything more than grass, trees and maybe some urns full of flowers.

As you can see from the pics below, where we are getting married is much more than I ever expected and her “idea” turned out amazing.  I can’t wait (well, I can…) to stand up on this deck, say our vows to each other, all the while biting my lip to hold back any tears that are bound to try and escape.   Only 3 more months to go.

Many thanks to Allan and Roger for all of your hard work and Bev for your vision.
